The imperial city of Magdeburg, beautifully situated on the Elbe, captivates with epochal architecture and metropolitan flair. Traces of its long history can be found in the cathedral and in the old fortifications. The “Green Citadel” by Hundertwasser is much more modern.  During winter, the unique "World of Lights" with its many large LED figures and the romantic Christmas market attracts more than two million visitors.
